Wholesome Waffles

Delicious and healthy, this recipe packs in all the flavors you need to kick-start your day. It's made with 100% whole wheat flour and is free of refined sugar.

Ingredients

 2 cups whole wheat flour
 1 tablespoon coconut sugar or cane sugar
 1 tablespoon baking powder
 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 1 ¾ cups plant-based milk
 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 1 tablespoon vegan butter or refined coconut oil for greasing
 Maple syrup to drizzle
Optional toppings:
 Banana coins and a drizzle of nut butter of your choice.
 Vegan butter and maple syrup

Instructions

Mix all the dry ingredients: whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, baking powder and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

In a separate bowl combine milk and apple cider vinegar to make buttermilk.

Add applesauce and vanilla to the buttermilk.

Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients. Stir gently until well incorporated.

Grease the waffle maker and add a few tablespoons of batter. Amount depends on the size of the waffle maker. Cook according to appliance instructions.

Top with our berry jam, yogurt ice cream and drizzle maple syrup on top for a healthy dessert breakfast.
